Where to Stay on Ometepe Island Nicaragua With Kids

Ometepe Island is a must-visit if you’re traveling around Nicaragua. This volcanic island offers a ton to do with an authentic, laid-back atmosphere.

Thanks to it’s remote location, the island only accessible by ferry boat, the island has retained it’s authenticity and rustic charm. But while there are plenty of hotel, only a few are really suitable for family travelers.

And while you can absolutely make it a day trip from Granada, to fully relax and enjoy the island be sure to consider spending the night. Here is where to stay on Ometepe Island with kids.

Finca San Juan de la Isla

Finca San Juan de la Isla on Ometepe Island is located within a tropical fruit tree plantation. With stunning views of both island volcanoes, this is perhaps the nicest accommodation on the island.

San Juan de la Isla warmly welcomes family travelers with family rooms and even a private family cabin, all which sleep up to 6 people. This ecolodge is designed in the style of a traditional Nicaraguan hacienda, including whitewashed walls, tile roof and large, wraparound porches equipped with hammocks from which to admire the stunning views.

Perched on Santo Domingo beach on the northeast side of the island on a strip of land essentially connecting the two volcanoes, this is the preferred beach location on Isla Ometepe.

Be sure to book the family cabin, priced at a very reasonable $125 per night. Breakfast is included and children under 12 are always half price.

Xalli Lodge

Located just down the beach from the Finca San Juan de le Isla, Xalli Lodge is another great option for families on Ometepe Island Nicaragua.

The restaurant and bar on site both receive rave reviews. The vast majority of what’s served here is locally sourced, including fresh milk, tortillas and cheese brought over from neighbors each morning.

This boutique hotel also has a small pool and offers family-friendly rooms. All rooms have queen beds but twin beds for children can be brought in for a small additional fee.

And best of all, Xalli Lodge is in an ideal location so you can walk to a number of restaurants and activities all within 15 minutes of the hotel so you don’t necessarily need a rental car.

Totoco Eco Lodge

The highlight of this unique property is most certainly the views. Perched at the edge of the cloud forest that circles the Maderas Volcano, Totoco Eco Lodge includes it’s own organic farm and sweeping panoramic views of the volcanoes.

And kids will be thrilled to learn that this hotel also has a pool, which is rare on the island of Ometepe Nicaragua.
